About PrizePicks Labs
Welcome to PrizePicks Labs.
This is where we write about what it actually takes to build at PrizePicks — the Ws, the Ls, and the decisions behind them. Most of what happens inside a fast-moving company never makes it past the walls: the hard calls, the experiments that failed, the architecture we tore down and rebuilt, the small things that turned out to matter more than the big ones. PrizePicks Labs is our attempt to let some of that out into the open.
Why we're building in public
The best lessons we've picked up came from teams generous enough to show their work. Not the polished case study written two years later, but the real-time thinking while the outcome was still uncertain.
So that's the bargain here. We're going to share what we're building while we're building it. You'll see the wins when they land, and you'll also see the rough drafts, the dead ends, and the course corrections that got us there. We think the second half is the more useful part.
What you'll find here
- Wins worth sharing. Launches, milestones, and the occasional thing we're genuinely proud of — with the context on how it came together.
- An inside look at PrizePicks. How we work, how we make decisions, and what the day-to-day of building a product at our scale actually looks like.
- Lessons from the trenches. The experiments that didn't pan out, the bugs that taught us something, and the trade-offs we'd make differently next time.
- Connecting with the industry. We don't build in a vacuum. We want to trade notes with the people solving similar problems — in sports, in fintech, in product, and in engineering.
Why this matters to us
We think the industry is better when teams talk to each other honestly. Too much of what gets shared is sanitized, all signal of success, none of the struggle. We'd rather be a little more open, compare notes with people doing hard things, and build relationships with the broader community along the way.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, subscribe and follow along. We'll bring the inside look: wins, lessons, and everything in between.
